Morning thinking — Day 0

I will write down what I’m thinking every morning, edit it and post it for the next five days. For example, I could be thinking about my partner (I hope this doesn’t get me in trouble), an idea I have, or an emotion I’m experiencing.

Well, isn’t that what Facebook or LinkedIn has turned into? Kind of.

When we see posts, people have written them with specific intent, conscious or not. The person posting desires to solicit feedback or voice something they’re disgruntled about. Or maybe they’re celebrating an event or sharing thoughts on a subject that recently got them riled up. Many posts, including my own, have progressively become ones with an aura of “look at me.”

But what if we shared plainly what happens in our minds with as little influence as possible? My theory is that my thinking is mostly untouched by the world when I wake up — my most individual experience.

This task will be as simple as that. Write something every morning — no subject matter intention other than to put something out into the world.

In The Denial of Death, Ernest Becker says, “The most that any one of us can seem to do is to fashion something-an object or ourselves-and drop it into the confusion, make an offering of it, so to speak, to the life force.” It’s a sentiment worthy of exploration.
